Founded in 1775, Royal Copenhagen was owned by the Danish Royal Family until 1868 when it passed into private hands. The company continues to produce the same fine quality porcelains today. Royal Copenhagen is known for producing some of the most innovative decorative arts designs of the early twentieth century. The crackleware glaze technique was perfected by Thorkild Olsen for Royal Copenhagen in 1930's. Officially named the 'Royal Porcelain Factory' and in Danish: 'Den Kongelige Porcelænsfabrik'.
